1. What is the most typical problem user may face with SymVPN?
Forgetting to manually reboot a phone after SymVPM install or uninstall.
In this case the message "Operation is timed out" (Decimal -33) will appear with around 15 sec delay after attempt to Verify the created Access Point.
The necessity of the manual reboot of the phone is clearly described in How to Install and User Guide. Also, during the installation process the special warning message appears advising user to restart the phone after the installation.

5. I have installed SymVPN, but how can I use it?
In order to use SymVPN software you need to have your own PPTP VPN account registered somewhere and at least a few options are available:
- You can create and use account on some public VPN Server that is providing PPTP VPN access service.
For example you may have a look at the list of PPTP VPN Service Providers compatible with SymVPN.
- You can setup your own PPTP VPN server in case you want to access your home network from anywhere.
- You may access your office network over PPTP VPN Server in your company, talk to office network administrator about availability and details.
More information could be found in User Guide.

9. Why is SymVPN 1.00 conditionally compatible with S60 3.2 edition devices?
In general, SymVPN 1.00 can be used on S60 3.2 edition devices too (Nokia N78, N79, N85, N96, Samsung INNOV8) with the applications that operate with Access Points in 3.0-3.1 editions style (like SymRDP, SymNAS, SymPlayer, SymSync, ... ). However, S60 FP2 introduced new method to organize Access Points – “Network Destinations”, which SymVPN 1.00 does not support yet. So if some application implemented specifically for S60 FP2 uses this new “Network Destinations” technology, it will not see SymVPN-created AP.
The full support for S60 3.2 may be added to the following SymVPN releases.

16. Message "Certificate may not be valid, is expired or phone's data settings may be incorrect" appears during SymVPN installation. What should I do?

In this case please do the following:
- make sure that you have current date on your phone, correct it if needed;
- check if you have the latest firmware version on our phone and consider to install the latest firmware version;
- in some cases may help a full phone restart with battery removal.
Using unauthorised firmware or software as well as various so called "hacks" may lead to this and other problems as well.
To check frimware version on your phone, just dial *#0000# instead of the phone number.

20. Message “Component ‘..........’ missing. Continue anyway?” appears during installation. What should I do?
No problem! All such messages are perfectly normal during SymVPN installation.
On some phones/firmware versions the same message could appear twice.
Press "Continue" or "Ok" in order to resume installation process.
More details are here.
A similar information could be found in SymVPN 1.00 User Guide.
The precise direction in the above mentioned SymVPN 1.00 User Guide is next:
- page 6, paragraph "3. INSTALLATION AND PREPARATION";
- page 7, paragraph "3.2.1. Component dependency messages".
There are a lot of pictures too!
P.S. Reminder. Please don't forget to restart your phone after SymVPN install. If you will forget to restart your phone, please have a look at the question #1 in this FAQ: "What is the most typical problem user may face with SymVPN?" |

22. How can I use a multiple accounts with the same User Name?
You may use the so called "network extended user name format": [Domain Name]\[User Name]
For example you have Accounts with same User Name and with different Passwords to connect different computers (servers).
So be it, place the Domain name and BackSlash in front of the User Name:
SwissVPN\Steve
BananaVPN\Steve
WiTopia\Steve
HotSpotVPN\Steve
VPNGates\Steve
HomeCompXP\Steve
Storage101\Steve
Pay attention, in this case should be used the Backslash character ( \ ),
do NOT use the regular Slash character here.
Keep in mind the following. While you are using such "network extended user name format" against
Windows based computer, in many cases you may use not only Exact Domain Name, but something else as well. In this case, if you are using it only in order to differentiate accounts AND(!) against Windows based computer,
then the name before Backslash ( \ ) could be any. So, it could be "BananaVPN", or "Banana-VPN", ot just "Banana", whatever will make you happy ...
However, you cannot use such frivolous approach with connection to computer on other Operation Systems, like Linux, Mac or others.
In this cases you should use the correct name for DomainName. Otherwise the most probable result will be the "Authentication Error".

23. What about IPSec?
Somehow, support for IPSec VPN wasn't included in the original requirements.
That is why the current version of SymVPN is supporting PPTP VPN only.
We prefer do not discuss future plans for support of other VPN protocols in Telexy's software.
If you are interested in IPSec VPN solution for Symbian OS, please have a look at VPN client from NCP via following links:

28. How to find out the IMEI code of my phone?
While in standby screen, instead of entering a phone number to call just enter *#06# on your phone and your IMEI number will be displayed.
See this and other codes in the below table.
| Code |
Description |
| *#06# |
IMEI number will be displayed. |
| *#0000# |
To see system info such as: version firmware, release date of firmware, version of hardware and version of the phone. |
| *#62209526# |
To see phone's MAC addess ( *#mac0wlan# ). Also, in most cases MAC Address is printed on the label under the battery. |
| *#2820# |
Will display the Bluetooth address if your device features one. |
| *#92702689# |
Will show the time the device has been in actual use. |
| *#7780# |
The Soft reset code, it will simply restore your phone's settings to the original factory ones.
This process won't wipe out all the info stored in the phone's memory, only that the settings will be restored to their original state.
Bear in mind that the default lock code after the Soft reset is over and will become 12345 again.
| #*7370# |
The Hard reset code. If you cannot reboot your phone because you forgot your locking code
there's another combination that is used to hard reset the device (similar to #*7370#).
You must switch off the handset and then press and hold the Accept calls key (Green key) + * key + 3 key + power button.
When the message ‘Choose the Country’ (or Formatting) appears on the screen, release all of the buttons.
It could take a while, like 20 seconds.
